ALP (Active Local Pages) is a complex engine which gives the programmers ability to write desktop software with WEB technologies - ASP and CGI. ALP is almost fully compatible with IIS that means the software will run without changes (or minimal changes) on the servers and the desktop. ALP also provides additional tools and wide range of components. With ALP you will get everything you need to run and deploy your application (installer, special viewer DHTML+ and powerful set of additional components).
The development for ALP does not require special skills - every WEB developer will be able to start building desktop applications immediatelly. If compared with other development tools/platforms ALP is easy-to-use and provides perfect envirenment for business and retail software development with less efforts. Perhaps the strongest area are the DB and other applicaitons which will fit in the request-response (client server) abstract type. The development costs for such kind of software wilth ALP are lower than any other programming environment - even RAD tools like VB or Delphi. The additional opportunity to run the same code on IIS WEB server allows developers to write once and deploy to stand-alone desktops and WEB servers.
Autorun CDs can be made in ASP and/or CGI. With the components provided with ALP even DB components usage can be avoided in many cases - if the aim is no additional dependencies and small code ALP will give you the opportunity to make your work to any customer running Windows 95 and later.
